Installed these PBI programs. When I open them they stay on the screen for about 2 seconds then I get an error message stating' segmentation' fault.
What the heck is this and how do I fix this so that these browsers come up stay on and continue to propoer?? Konqueror is the only browser that works with no problems. . . .

I tried Flock also. I think it's best just to stick with Konqueror while running PC-BSD. Those other browsers, they screw up the flash player anyhow. You only need one browser, if you really must use Firefox for something, get a live linux, > Knoppix, Mepis, Berry, etc., that has it, & do what you have to do with Firefox that way.

Does it allow you to do a backtrace? If so please post it. I have used FF both from PBI and ports and both worked fine. Flash7 has been been marked forbidden because of security problems linux-flashplugin-7.0r63_1 is forbidden: Arbitrary code execution vulnerabilities: http://vuxml.FreeBSD.org/7c75d48c-429b-11db-afae-000c6ec775d9.html.

Are you using the Flash player by chance?

The only times I've seen that type of behavor has been when I've been playing around in vim and not being nice :-)

Is there any more info at all??

I removed the webbrowsers and removed Flash player for krusader (pbi file) and reinstalled the webbrowsers. Everyone now works. . ..good!

When you install browsers like Firefox and Flock, which are Mozilla, you have to first run them as root. It has to get something that only root has access or rights to. I am unsure why but that is a fact. I have had this very issue and you should always run as root first. :D
Oh, also, you can go to ports and install Opera. I is a really good browser and it takes about 30 to 40 seconds to install. I run that one as root first to but it does not take 9 years to install from ports like Firefox does. 8)

Yes, this is because you installed the Flash player for Konqueror, which is not compatible with Firefox.

I've never had to run FF, Opera as root. If you do it will create their setup files in the / directory as it's root's home. Probably a bad idea to populate it with garbage as things like this have a tendency to come back and bite you in the ass down the road. Sometimes it may be necessary to run kong as root as it's your default file browser and there is a link in the menus just for that purpose. I think Charles created an Opera PBI that works just fine.

Opera PBI is fine, 10 x better then the native Windows version. You can use ports/package if you want though.

Never ran Firefox as root and the only problems I've had with it and Thunderbird is pop'ups not being able to validate *mozilla.orgs certificate. Streaming videos in Kaffeine also occasionally but rarly crashes Firefox.

I've ran Seamonkey both as normal user (1.0.3 install) and as root after reinstall (1.0.4)

I remember it clearly and was given that as the most likely reason for the fault.
The reference below is for SeaMonkey but it is Mozilla after all. :D
Note: You must run SeaMonkey at least once to complete autoregistration and for the compreg.dat file to be written to the installation directory. If a different user (other than the person who installed the product) runs the program first, a core dump will occur. (Bug 49345) Please see link below as reference.

I put this here because I was having the same segmentation fault issue and after Apatewna posted that, I have done it and have not had the issue since. This is a real issue and as I recall, you replied to that post as well.

Mine usually crashes a few pages in, every single time. I only brought up Opera as an alternative to Firefox. I have never had the issue with Opera but run as root first anyway. :D

The post is about Firefox and Flock...I've never tried Seamonkey nor Flock. I use Firefox every day. I just installed Firefox on a scratch box after a 'portsnap fetch update' command from root. As root I installed firefox from ports 'cd /usr/ports/www/firefox && make install clean'. As it was compiling I went into the Control Center and created a 'barney' user with no root access. Once the port make was done I exited konsole, ended the desktop session and logged in as barney to a fresh, clean desktop. I immediately created a desktop short cut, pointed it to 'firefox' with no path and told it to use my home/barney directory as its work directory. Double clicked and opened it and went surfing with no problems what so ever. Firefox is Mozilla, you are right. The bug you pointed to in a previous post on Mozilla's site says this regarding Seamonkey and multiple users:

To install SeaMonkey for multiple users on Unix, install as normal, then create the following script in your SeaMonkey directory, make it executable (chmod u+x <scriptname>), and run it as a user with write privileges to the mozilla directory (e.g. root). Do not run this program as su[do] root. (Bug 52653)

#!/bin/sh

dist_bin=`dirname $0`

MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=$dist_bin

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$dist_bin

export MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME LD_LIBRARY_PATH

$dist_bin/regxpcom

$dist_bin/regchrome

touch $dist_bin/chrome/user-skins.rdf $dist_bin/chrome/user-locales.rdf

You should then be able to run that installation of SeaMonkey as any user who has permissions to access it.

It specifically states Do not run this program as su[do] root.

You are right, FF and Seamonkey are both Mozilla but FF is not Seamonkey and Seamonkey isn't Opera and it is not a good idea to run any of them as root unless you like carrying around a loaded gun pointed at your foot while drinking ;-) I like coloring outside of the lines too on occassion but I teach people to first color within them as the pictures come out much cleaner.

Opera works fine. I take precaution. I have had the issue with Firefox, SeaMonkey, and Flock. It is pointless to argue if you have not had that issue yourself. I am glad that you have'nt but I have and so have others. I am sorry you disagree. You seem defensive as if I have said something bad about Charles and his PBI. If I had an ill word to speak about anyone, I would speak it. I am not going to argue about this. It would be pointless to continue, so lets not. :D

For me, Flock segfaults, but Firefox doesn't. I have the flash player for Konqueror installed.

But I'm a little confused now. Do or don't run Flock as root? Running Flock as root doesn't seem to make sense though. In Linux, you just unpack it into a directory. You don't even run an install script. So I'm confused as to why you need to run it as root in BSD? If that's correct, I'll do it. Just seems odd to me.

Ok. Uninstalling Flock and Flash works. First you reinstall Flock, and then Flash. 8)

Of course, I'm not even all that impressed with Flock. I just get curious when something doesn't work.
