Hello and salutations, I finally got a chance to sit back down with my laptop and work with PCBSD. The install was smooth and painless and I have much respect for everyone involved. I have stumbled across a problem with my video card or monitor. I seem to be stuck at 1024x768 or worse. I've tried the pimpmyvga.sh provide by antik in the "Cant get my Lap to run 1280x800 res" thread. Whenever I test xorg.conf.detected or xorg.conf.new, I get a couple of errors (forgot what they were but I'll post them in a sec). I welcome all advice/suggestions.
Thanks much
boudi
p.s. I just love the PBIs.

Welcome back boudi,

I've read where the nVidia driver doesn't support the Go series as well as non-mobil chips. I also noticed that your log file shows that it's trying to ' LoadModule: "nv". You might try to down load the latest nVidia PBI driver (or alternately, you can install it from ports). After installing you can run the nvidia-xconfigure program and it will set up your XF86Config file and try to LoadModule: "nvidia" instead of nv. You will also have to rename your xorg.conf file or it will read that instead of the XF86Config. I don't know if it will help but it may fix all your ills.

Actually pimpmyvga.sh creates xorg.conf.temp or xorg.conf.detected file not xorg.conf.new one.

I tried that with no luck. ':('

I tried both .detected and .temp with no luck
still trying ':?'

In case this helps
I'm working on a Dell Inspiron 8100
the default XF86conf file has Modes "1600x1200" and "1280x1024" under the all the Displays, but I don't have the option of 1600x1200 when I'm trying to adjust the display settings in KDE. Could the fact that PCBSD is unable to find a specfic display for my laptop's LCD be part of the problem?

Could the "hsync out of range" have any thing to do with it?

(II) NV(0): Monitor0: Using default hsync range of 75.76-77.04 kHz
(II) NV(0): Monitor0: Using default vrefresh range of 60.00-60.61 Hz
(II) NV(0): Clock range: 12.00 to 350.00 MHz
(II) NV(0): Not using default mode "640x350" (hsync out of range)
(II) NV(0): Not using default mode "320x175" (bad mode clock/interlace/doublescan)
(II) NV(0): Not using default mode "640x400" (hsync out of range)
Allot of resolutions

I adjussted my hsync rate to 24-93.8 and now it works fine. I found that hsync rate on a random SuSE config site. Good catch on the hsync error.
Thanks all
