View Full Version : Adobe Flash Player w/ Firefox 1.5.0.6
Originally, I posted this as if I installed Firefox from ports. Since my memory is like that of a vegetable, I forgot that I decided to use the PBI installer. I am very good at forgetting things some times. Anyway, install Firefox with the PBI and after you have Firefox installed, open a shell, do su , enter the root password and hit enter. Now do firefox and this will run Firefox for the first time as root. This is a neccessary step and will avoid errors later, such as Firefox crashing for no apparent reason. Now go to /usr/ports/www/flashplugin-mozilla open a shell, do su enter the root password and push enter/ return.
Now do, make
This may take a bit so be patient. When make is done, do make install /usr/local/MyPrograms/Firefox1.5.0.6
Again, this may take a bit but when it is done, you will have updated your Firefox web browser and should not get the Flash download prompt anymore.
ENJOI!! :D

make install /usr/local/MyPrograms/Firefox1.5.0.6
It's the Firefox PBI.

Woops, changed! Good memory of mine.
I must apologize for my original post. I have a severe lack of sleep going on and originally was going to use ports but changed my mind and since I am so tired, that part slipped my mind. I know it sounds idiotic but, your right, it is and it is fixed. Please pardon. :D

In theroy linux-firefox and linux-flashplayer7 ports should work. As should any Fedora Core 4 RPMs for them (when using the FC4 ABI). Hopefully we will get a nice wrapper and a Linux-Flashplayer9 soon.

Install the Fedora Core PBI and download the Linux version of Firefox for Fedora? Then Could I get the download from Adobe and put the .so file in the plugins directory? I know beta 9 is out for Linux which still has some flaws but works ok on Xubuntu as far as I know. How about that?

Adobes beta should work, for linux web browsers installed that is, only every thing will be under /usr/local/compat/linux/ instead of /usr/local/ including firefox it self afaik.
So you sorta face *linux* package management with RPMs there.

Hi,
I've written this tutorial (http://www.erata.net/weblog/default/2006/10/16/flash-plugin-on-freebsd/) on how to enable linux-flashplugin7 with native firefox on FreeBSD 6 ( also works with 7 ).
Hope it helps.
