PCBSD doesn't let me use my generic USB wireless mouse and keyboard :-(
Bizarrely, FreeBSD 6.1 running KDE 3.5 runs fine, with USB wireless mouse and keyboard.
Conclusion: FreeBSD 6.0 does not support USB wireless mouse and keyboard, but FreeBSD 6.1 does.
So...how do I use FreeBSD 6.1 with PCBSD? And if I can't, does anyone know whether the next release of PCBSD will use FreeBSD 6.1, and if it will does anyone know when the next release is coming...?
Cheers,
Dan :-)

My wireless works fine with PC-BSD, but it does not work with the FBSD 6.0/6.1 installers.
I don't know what to say.
Is PC-BSD at least able to detect your keyboard?

It is detected as it shows up in dmesg, but it doesn't play. It's a USB keyboard/mouse connected to a laptop, and when it's connected the laptop keyboard doesn't work, but when unplugged the laptop keyboard does work.
Like I said, I've not had any problems with FreeBSD 6.1 on it's own so I'm guessing there is some sort of magical fix involved...

your problem is because with the wireless attached you have 2 keyboards and 6.0 doesn't handle that well, it gets confused
6.1 fixes this with kernel option device kbdmux

I'm also interested in using 6.1 since it supposedly supports more hardware. Is this possible?

Something improved in 6.1 was usb support according to their changelog.

I have different opinion about USB support in 6.1- It plain sucks, with 6.0 I had no problem mounting my digital camera but with 6.1 it shows me an errors. I downgraded back to 6.0.
I won't recommend release PC-BSD with 6.1 until they resolve bugs and make it stable enough. Waiting for patchset nr1...

for me, FreeBSD 6.0 did work with my USB keyboard but not my USB mouse (M$ Comfort Optical Mouse 3000).

I've migrating to freebsd 6.1 last week.
Why don't create a port that help to convert a standard freebsd6.1 to pcbsd ?
Using the right deps it is not difficult.
Desktopbsd is moving in this direction creating a port that install on a fresh freebsd all the necessary to convert it in a desktopbsd.

A patch from PC-BSD 1.0 to 1.1 will be issued here in the very near future, along with new ISO's. PC-BSD 1.1 will be based on FreeBSD 6.1, and should fix some hardware problems people are experiencing :)
