View Full Version : Install Partition
Has PC-BSD changed the requirement for BSD to be installed into a primary partition.

pc-bsd is "just" a gui-added freebsd... you always need a primary partition for bsd...

Thanks for the reply ( that rules it out on the laptop then)
However on my home machine I have spare primary partitions on my second hard disk. Can BSD be installed in one of these partions and booted trough grub on the first hard disk)
Thanks in advance

OK
I think that its time to bite the bullet and sort out the laptop.
Plan B is as follows
tarball the following filesystems to USB hard drive
hda5 hda7 and hda8 (mandrake, suse, knoppix)
delete hda5, hda6 (swap), hda7 and hda8
delete hda2 (extended partition)
create new hda2 for BSD
create new hda3 (spare primary partition)
create new hda4 (extended partition)
recreate hda5,hda6,hda7,hda8
restore mandrake suse and knoppix from USB hard drive
Install PC-BSD
Any gotcha's?
Any chanches that we will see a PC-BSD Release that can be installed on a Logical Partition :?: Cause if you have many OSes on one machine Primary Partitions are very rare.
