Thumbs up 8) :
Advantages of PCLinuxOS
Out of the box support for MP3, Quicktime and Microsoft wmv media formats which is a huge plus for this distribution.
Windows users or would be converts will feel right at home using this Linux distribution because the developers have given it a default WindowsXP look and feel to it.
All software are categorized neatly according to their functions. For example, all editors are grouped together in the start menu, which makes it easier for a lay person to navigate the menu and find what he is looking for with ease.
A very good GUI front-end to aid the installation of the OS on to the hard disk which even a newbie can use without any difficulty.
Support for NVIDIA graphics cards (Though they have provided separate ISO images for the same).

but i have to admit that the OS looks very "clean" and organized, unlike the other distro's this one IS userfriendly

Yes, but if this is what the users want... At least this distro is driving a fair amount of people 8)

Windows has set the benchmark for usability - so until we can surpass that the only option is to copy it.

I wouldn't have a problem buying a license for OS X but I'm just sick of it. It's too much water, cristal and anti-aliased fonts :x

he mentioned usability, not style... :o
There are things i like in osx, and things i dislike. But if there is one thing it does right, that is eyecandy

I agree with you. I used to love OS X look and feel, but you know, it hasn't changed for years now :)

their login screen is a direct copy of SuSE Linux 10's login screen.
P.S: If you look closely with the PCLinuxOS's logo, in the middle, it looks like a Swastika :s

I have a triple boot system with PC-BSD , PCLinuxOS , and WinXP . I find the first two OSs much easier to setup and use than WinXP . Windows has much wider print support due solely to the manufacturers inclusion of Windows only drivers on their install cd, however getting the rest of the OS up to a truly usable and secure state requires a multitude of installs and reboots , whereas BSD and Linux are completly usable and game ready after a single reboot . If it wasn't for Halflife and Thief we would ditch Windows for good . Most of our better games run just fine on Linux or BSD and the install isn't really that hard , although it wouldn't take much from the folks at ID to provide a proper installer .

I've tried pclinuxos over the past few days in vmware; and, yes, I agree it's a very nice looking OS.
We all know that the WinXP look-and-feel is one of the reasons that makes pclinuxos a rising Linux star
More and more people know now about window's security issues, windows-targeting virusses and malware and try an OS that's more reliable, safe and looks like what they're using, i.e. winxp.
My suggestion:
Would it be an idea to give people the option during installation to either install 1) the standard pcbsd gui or 2) a winxp look and feel.
When option 2 is chosen, this will for instance install:
- Win XP background: color R58 G110 B165 or default background (http://www.travisdart.com/misc/wallpaper/WindowsXPbig.jpg)
- Theme/Style: KDE3 XP Style (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=1499)
- Window Decoration:AKDC Luna (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=12330)
- Colors: WinXP colors (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=362)
- KDM Theme: This Spring (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=23467)
- XP Taskbar (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=27018)
- KDE Windows Makeover (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=29551)
Most of us and the mature freebsd users want and will give pcbsd the look-and-feel they want it to have, but why don't we give newbies the choice to have a gui they're comfortable and happy with?
Happy new year and all the best for 2006 to you all!
@Kris: many thanks for all your hard work and efforts this year. Keep up the good work.

PC-BSD is still BETA in my opinion, maybe the next release will change this? I liked the disclaimer that PCLinuxOS has on thier download page, maybe we should have something like this?

other than copywright... seriously someone who can't cope with a different colour of desktop isn't worth pampering to. Ultimately you can change the look 'n' feel but unless you start copying the .com components it will still not have the same (IMHO over complex) set-up that pcbsd already has.

Yeah that might be nice but this is not the GPL, it's: http://www.pcbsd.org/?p=license
