Quake3 is on the ported applications list of Freebsd so it works here!
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/ports.cgi?qu ... &stype=all (http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/ports.cgi?query=quake&stype=all)
I think it would be very important to have as mutch games as possible working as games always attract people in.
A Quake3.pbi package would be a must

I'm not a big game player so seeing the games is really not a big deal. With that said, I have been looking into the games and I did manage to create the Lincity package. I'm currently getting a feel for creating the packages. I have created some packages that install and run with no problem, and others that install but do not run.
I'm going to be working on that tonight when I get some time. Monday's are very crazy for me as my kids have karate practice, both of which are at different times, and tonight is the demonstration and awards. I might have some time when I get home from work, but more than likely it won't be until later tonight when I get a chance to mess with the Package Creation again.

Thanks for your support. Imagine posting "Quake3 pics on PCBSD" in OSnews and such sites. I am sure lots of people will become curious to try the OS out! Its a PR stunt and more fun for me at night :D
Keep up the exellent work bsd_usr!

I'll try and get Quake3 packagetized (Is this a word? It looks like it is now. :) ) The only problem I will have testing this, is that I do not have the game dat files for Quake.
I'll see if I can find those files tonight in order to test it.

The countdown has begun...
Now we only need some serious kick-ass guide to install and optimize 3d drivers from Nvidia and ATI

I'm not finding anything under the ports directory for Quake 3. I see the items for Quake3 Server, but not just for Quake 3.
I also see Quake2Forge, Quake2lnx and QuakeForge.
I will keep searching to see what I can find out, but don't hold your breath on anything.
I should have some time after work tonight, as the karate was longer than expected. But the good thing is I now have a 7 year old that is a Yellow Belt and a 13 Year old that is a Green - White Stripe.
I will keep everyone posted as to what I find, but it isn't looking good.

q3-datapackes or something its called in the freebsd port-tree

I was looking at that in the ports directory but I am not sure that it the actual game itself. Here is the information I get from FreshPorts.org http://www.freshports.org/games/q3-paks/
I will still continue to check and see if there is something that can be done.
Another problem may be here.
http://www.freshports.org/games/linux-q3ademo/
IGNORE: may not be automatically fetched due to licensing restrictions. You MUST manually fetch the Linux version from: http://quake3.lokigames.com - once linuxq3ademo-1.11-6.x86.gz.sh has been downloaded, move it to /usr/ports/distfiles and then restart this build.
I think that this may be out of the realm of something that I want to get into. I suppose it is still possible since it can be manually copied over, but making a package out this may interfere with the Licensing Restrictions.
Dwayne
the only i know, under linux u copied the pak0.pk3 from ur windows cd
into the dir, where u installed the quake3-linux files so u can run quake3

The only thing I am really worried about is the licensing issues that we may have creating a package. It seems they've got ya here. It appears to be the same issue as with Java.
