I would be nice to find a simple Firewall GUI in the next pc-bsd edition.

I think Tim (Solarin) is working on it...

Would it be possible to create a firewall tool such as the one in Windows XP SP2 that blocks all incoming by default and then says "Program X is attempting to do Y, do you want to allow this?"

Actually, I'm not :P

But agreed, we should have something. I'll add it to the ToDo list.

A GUI like "guardog" would be great.
Or something simpler like Suse Firewall.

Why not just port the SUSE firewall to PC-BSD?? SUSE is a completely open source distribution now, since Novell was so kind and GPL'ed YaST.

Well there go, I guess it's just a matter of time before PC-BSD has a lot of great management utilities.

SUSE is a distribution based on Linux, not FreeBSD. So i think that SUSE firewall is only wrapper to iptables. FreeBSD doesn't use iptables as firewall.
Anyway, FreeBSD can use 3 different firewalls (pf, ipfw and ipf) so if we want
develop a gui, we have to choice which firewall support.

Simpler and coolest way is to use PF. :D

I'm aware that Linksys is Linux based but I think something simalar the setup they have would be good. You have about 4 or 5 tabs one just for opening/closing spesific ports.

Thought this would be a good idea on the way it should look.

The best fire wall I've ever used is Kerio 2.1.5 under Windows. (Also free for personal use)

It's wonderful imho, but even if Kerio had *nix support, the current versions are like some other crappy brand of fire wall I will not mention, while the older version I use was reccomended by a few 20 year vet's of living on computers.
