System
Sempron 2800+ (K8-class, AMD64 capable, but I'm using 32bit).
Abit NF8-V mobo (nForce3 250GB chipset)
GF4 ti4200 with 128MB
512MB DDR SDRAM
Seagate 80GB HDD
Problems?
Firstly, it installs OK, but...(there's always a "but") :)
(1) PC-BSD doesn't seem to recgonise FAT32 partitions.
I wanted to share files in my triple boot setup (Win2k/Linux/BSD) using a
partition formatted as FAT32, but during installation wizard, it just didin't
see it. It ignores FAT32 and treats my remaining unformatted space and
FAT32 partition as one unused area. :(
(2) I looked at the boot messages (Ctrl-Alt-F1) and see that the onboard
bits like ALC658 sound and Nvidia MCP LAN connection seems to be
detected corrected, BUT KDE seems to be ignoring them. I look in network
settings (as I need to change the network config to suit my network), but
nothing shows up!
ie : Computer => PC-BSD Settings => Network Manager
When I look at Device Status, there is nothing for...
Link:
IP:
MAC:
Shouldn't it display information for my onboard LAN?
So the FreeBSD portion seems fine with my setup (just as it is in Linux),
but the KDE part of PC-BSD seems not to see it at all. I guess this is a
implementation issue, and not a major FreeBSD problem.
(3) When trying a USB Flash stick (Apacer Steno 2.0, 512MB), I get an
error message in KDE and in console mode (Press "Ctrl-Alt-F1")
In KDE, the error message is:
Could not mount device.
The reported error was:
mount: /mnt/usbflash0: unknown special file or file system
If I look in console mode (Ctrl-Alt-F1), it seems to have no problem in
detecting the hardware, but I get this error message:
umass0: Pahse Error, residue = 0
(da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): Synchronize cache failed, status == 0x4, scsi status == 0x0
I'm not quite sure what the problem is, as I'm a BSD newbie, so I hope these error messages I've posted help.
