PC-BSD destroys my partion table

Hi,

i m a debianer since 10years but now i try pc-bsd.. first look wow amazing speed and stable handling..not so much differents between linux and bsd..

later i schwitch to windows to check my partion table..with pqmagic. what should i say, its destroyed.

thats my second bsd install on this week and everytime the partion table is out of order... on the first install the bsd partion kill my logical partion in the extended too... bsd is writing data on it... :shock: so i formatet the whole disk.


so whats wrong, or has anybody the same problems.. i m an gamer so i need the windows partitions.. :o:oops: :lol: ops: :lol:

That PCBSD is not going to give any sort of option about not blowing away whole discs until 7.5 comes out.

Anyone else know more about that?

Check the man page of boot0cfg (man 8 boot0cfg). Using the option "noupdate" (-o noupdate) the MBR won't be updated on every reboot.

N.B. be very carefull using boot0cfg, first read the man page and use at least the -f option to save the preexisting MBR to a file.

However this doesn't prevent the partitiontable to be overwritten during install. Only to not update the MBR at boottime. At least try installing PC-BSD without the FreeBSD MBR code.

Have fun though using PC-BSD, however don't expect it to be easy and flawless...
