Every now and again I'll be faced with the problem of no sound on my system. Rather than playing with the system settings I've come to learn the master volume tends to relocate itself. Moving from app to app like a gypsy.
Example: I just fired up xmms and found I had no sound. What i've come to learn is that if I raise the volume on linux-realplayer, even though realplayer is not being used, I can reestablish my sound on xmms. So I fiddle with the sound on realplayer and viola. I have sound again on xmms. Go figure.
Anyone else ever experience this problem ? I really do need to know how to fix master volume once and for all.
I'll read the manual to see what it says. Just curious whether this is a unique problem or a common problem.
