in gnome volume control mic level on 100%, but mixer show - mic 0:0, and microphone don't work...

then I set the microphone volume through mixer:
#mixer mic 90:90
Setting the mixer mic from 0:0 to 90:90.

This should no longer be an issue for 9.1 (as of a few snapshots ago).
