hi all --

thanks for reading, and any light you may be able to shed on this problem:

i'm experiencing network (wlan0 and msk0) problems, sporadically, on all of the desktops i've used (LXDE, GNOME, Fluxbox). i haven't been able to identify any one particular thing that *i'm* doing that might cause problems.

after things freeze, i'll try pinging my router:

ping 192.168.0.1
ping: send to: no route to host

right-clicking the wifi icon (or the msk0 icon) in the panel and selecting 'Restart the Network' doesn't get me anywhere either. i've also tried

sudo /net/rc.d/netif restart

with the same results (i.e., the network still won't restart).

i'm using a macbook pro, version 1,1 (1.83gHz, Marvell Ethernet 88E8053, Airport Extreme (Atheros 5424?)), and i've attached a dmesg. again, any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I wonder if it is not due to the fact that our display vga and your network card share the same IRQ 16.

This may bring a conflict for the OS. Maybe by looking in the BIOS you can set a IRS for the display

thanks for the suggestion, but i'm not seeing anything in the BIOS that will let me change those IRQ values.

i'll keep looking.
thanks again! cheers!

dscialom -- apologies! i'm moving away from using that laptop. the same sort of problem affects my current laptop, so i'll continue poking around.

thanks again!

you can set the irq in the /boot/device.hints. look at the man pages or also to google device.hints with the name of your device
