Right now, there is no image management package available via PBI, and Digikam is an outstanding one. There is a version available on Freshports, but some have had difficulties with it:

In addition, there is a version of Rawstudio on Freshports which would complement Digikam
well, and make PC-BSD a much better solution for photography. Right now, all we have is
Gimp, which is powerful, but only 8-bit at this time.

I'd pitch in, but I have no programming education or experience at all. So I'll have to
simply grovel...~(8^})=....unless someone has another suggestion.

I can be wrong, but I think digikam is included in the PC-BSD base system already.

It may be included already. However, since PC-BSD is looking at offering alternative desktop environments, I think it makes sense to have Digikam as a PBI since (I'm pretty sure) it's a KDE app.

Wow, Digikam is there! My apologies; I did check in the Graphics subcategory, and didn't find it there under its own name, and assumed (..(:})..) that it wasn't there. Turns out it's there as "Photo Management App". How did I miss something so obvious?

Let me simply grovel, and thank all for their interest. RAW importation is another issue; UFRaw and RawStudio are both GTK apps, and are to my knowledge the only 'nix RAW importation apps that I know. But then, of course, I missed Digikam.

So I can now import at least some pictures into PC-BSD. Thanks!

The RAWstudio PBI (version 1.2_5) has been released.

We also have a Digicam module on the build server right now. Since it is already included with KDE in PCBSD 8.x there will not be a PBI for it. However, when version 9.x is released, (allowing different desktop environments) we will probably release a PBI for Digicam for the 9.x users.
