I'm a *nix newbie trying to setup a webserver on an old machine. I'm usually pretty good at figuring software out, but it apears there is a steep learning curve with BSD. I need apache, mysql, php, and phpBB, which is what I have setup on my current windows machine. I managed to install apache with the pbi, which works great, but I'm not having any luck with installing anything other then the pbis. I've read hundreds of web pages with very vauge instructions and haven't had any luck. When I do pkg_add it says it can't connect with the FTP, so I haven't gotten anywhere with that. No luck with ports either.

If anyone can help me out, or if they have a pbi for the above software that would be great.

thanks.

This is strange
I have successfully installed PHP and MySQL from the ports...
Have you updated your ports? What error messages do you get when you install from the ports?

All of the instructions I've seen for ports are for the standard FreeBSD installation which included the ports. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the ports are included with PC-BSD. I've tried manually downloading them, but can't get sysinstall to recognize them. I haven't found instructions for doing it this way.

Packages seem easier as I'm new to this, that's what I'd like to use. Really I'd like both to work, in case one doesn't work.

Here (http://www.pcbsd.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=9735&highlight=#9735) you can find instructions to syncronizr ports with your system.

Type the following into a console as root (type 'su' and enter your root password to become root from a console):
