PBI is so simple to install that I fear that some cracker may throw in some rootkit.... Is there some security built in in PBI like md5 hash and possibility to check the pbi origin over internet with digital certificate?

Actually i was referring to a quality check on the functionality of programs, see it shortcuts are made, see if all the files go where they should.
As for those security measures, they should be taken asap as well but i dont know how are things standing right now.
In the end, we have to make sure all certified pbi's are safe and fully functional but the user will always be able to install uncertified pbi's, even if he is warned against such move.
Hi i'm the maintainer of Skype, Xmms, KMYMoney etc.
I have tested all of them and they seem to work fine, even on my old P3 700 box.
Could you please post some more details like does /usr/local/bin/xmms exist etc.
Thanks and sorry for the inconvinience

When you get this error, open up a konsole session, and type "xmms" for example. Do you get some any errors listed?

I am having the same problem with XMMS. If I double click on it, it acts like it's starting and then just disappears. I ran the XMMS*.pbi file from a command line and it spit out an error something like "Missing Symbol Table" (sorry the machine is at work and I can't remember exactly what the error is). I thought perhaps it was a download error, so I downloaded it again (both times from the USA link) and diff'd the two files and they were identical. :(

where are you opening the file from?
I think i detected a bug where the .pbi's would not open on other partitions than the pc-bsd one...

I just installed PC-BSD 0.8.2 two days ago. If I open a terminal window (Konsole) and type the following:
./XMMS1.2.10-PV1.1.pbi
I get the following error message:
/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: ./XMMS1.2.10-PV1.1.pbi: Shared object has no run-time symbol table

Your system is missing some libraries? I experienced this problem when "accidentally" fsked up some hard links....
Yeah that sounds like a library problem try run this command as root:
ldconfig -m /lib /usr/lib /usr/local/lib /usr/X11R6/lib /compat/linux/lib /compat/linux/usr/lib /compat/linux/X11R6/lib
Hopfully that will solve it

When I run this command:
ldconfig -m /lib /usr/lib /usr/local/lib /usr/X11R6/lib /compat/linux/lib /compat/linux/usr/lib /compat/linux/X11R6/lib
I get this error:
ldconfig: warning: /compat/linux/lib: No such file or directory
ldconfig: warning: /compat/linux/usr/lib: No such file or directory
ldconfig: warning: /compat/linux/X11R6/lib: No such file or directory
And the XMMS still gets the same error. So can I conclude from this that I am missing the compatability libraries?
Was this something that was optional in the install? If that is the case I may have failed to include them.
Hmm you dont need to worry about those errors, as you probably dont have the Linux PBI installed.
I'm not quite sure how to solve this :(

I was wondering if someone for whom the installation was successful could check the MD5 sum of the working XMMS .pbi file and post it. The one I have (that doesn't work) is:
MD5 (XMMS1.2.10-PV1.1.pbi) = 3a0b3d08a46b13df73495664c103b64b

MD5 (XMMS1.2.10-PV1.1.pbi) = af68c000fe1b352ba7adb38b619f4f53
I was able to install, XMMS loads, however no plugins available. Is link to plugins broken or is there an easy ln -s solution?
found solution to above: copied directories from /Programs/XMMS1.2.10/lib/xmms to /home/____/.xmms/Plugins...works like a charm!
