OKay, so.

I've gotten through the install of PC-BSD just fine, and it goes to reboot and the boot manager comes up and says:

"
F1 ??
F5 Drive 1

Default: F1
"

Pressing F1 boots up windows, pressing F5 makes the cursor flash repeatedly, like so (see figure below) and my hdd activity light constantly on.

"
F1 ??
F5 Drive 1

Default: F1

_ (<--- Flashing Cursor)

"

Any ideas?

Cheers.

I have had the same problem this week. I would suggest you try installing GAG (http://gag.sourceforge.net/) on a floppy and see if you can boot PC-BSD. GAG is very easy to use, you only have to copy disk.dsk on a floppy and boot from the floppy :)

ok, try xfdisk. it's another good bootloade!

the pc-bsd space on your harddisk... was it empty or was it a previously created partition, as you install it?

i could only install it on a empty space. a previous created partion failed to boot.
