View Full Version : Intel i810 not working
Hi,
I installed PCBSD 7.1Beta a couple days ago on a machine with intel i810 video card and I noticed that installer used strange resolution. I did manage the installation somehow but when the system was trying to boot into graphic mode it tried to recognize my card. It asked me to change resolution but then it failed and X server kept trying to return to previous one but kept crashing repeatedly.
I used an older version of PCBSD before and it worked with i810.
Any advices?
I found in the FreeBSD handbook that "Configuration with Intel® i810 integrated chipsets requires the agpgart AGP programming interface for X11 to drive the card. See the agp(4) driver manual page for more information."
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO885 ... onfig.html (http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/x-config.html)
Maybe this is in due? I do hope someone with enough BSD experience will check this out.

What xf86-video are you using?
i810 is deprecated(abandoned) and xf86-video-intel should be used instead.
new Xorg server 1.5.3 depends on HAL and as such can have various problems.
You best bet is to switch to xf86-video-vesa until this issues are resolved.
To have intel actually working you need agp, drm and i915 loaded in kernel.
To see loaded modules you can use "kldstat -v" command

I don`t know what driver was used, it happened when PCBSD tried to startx. I was unable to do anything.
Anyway I installed FreeBSD7.1, then run X -configure, then startx and voila!, X server works fine. This means PCBSD has something broken. Interestingly, the same bad situation is with DesktopBSD, openSUSE and Mandriva, so I guess latest versions of X may be somehow buggy or the scripts that configure X are flawed.
Anyway PCBSD could fix this.

I`ve just tested latest 7.1 edition and it still sucks! I am unable to set up my video card. Xorg just crashes.
