I have a pc-chips mb (m863g) running an amd 2400+ with 1.2gb ram. This mb uses SiS 741GX/964L chipset. I have an asus v9400 agp video card. It is 8X with 64mb of ddr. It has nVidia g-force mx4000 chipset. My system ran perfectly with version 1.5 of pcbsd. However, I do not seem to be able to get to the same condition with version 7.0.1. I cannot get any higher res than 1024x768, and regardless of res, the icons disappear from the desktop. They only appear when I run the mouse over them, then they disappear again. I've tried various other video cards, including the video built into the mb. The mb video is great until the desktop is being initialized and then it starts blinking about once every 3 or 4 seconds, with the off time being about a second. I get the same results with an older ATI card with 128mb of ram. I have tried a variety of bios settings as well as running in vesa mode; nothing seems to make a difference. I have an asus a9550 that won't work at all except during installation. I get great resolution on all of these during installation. It is a shame that whatever is driving xwindows can't be used after the installation.

I've also noticed a decrease in hardware support and ease of use between the 2 versions when it comes to printers.

Thanks!

Hm, weird... maybe PC-BSD 7 has something against ATI?
I had no problem installing it on an old computer with an nVidia Ti4200 graphics card, 2 x AMD 1400+ CPUs, 1.5 GB of RAM, onboard sound, Intel Pro 10/100 ethernet.

I've also got issues with an NVIDIA card; I got my self a lightly-used 8800 GTS Thursday at the urgings of some on this forum that said that support from NVIDIA is much better than for ATI (had a Radeon X850X before). Stilll cannot get out of 1024x768 myself, and can't use anything other than the VESA drivers. I installed the NVIDIA driver and disabled VESA in the /boot/loader.conf, and still have this issue.

UPDATE: I reinstalled with a fresh .iso of 7.0.1 and it seems to have worked after pointing it to the latest driver.
